This easy to use reading intervention program is designed for K-2nd grade students who are struggling to keep up. It’s a 1 1/2 hour weekly commitment, Tuesday or Thursday from 12:15-1:45 pm, for six weeks March 9th – April 22nd. Training will be Monday, February 22nd at 5:45p, in the Activities Center, dinner and childcare will be provided. LBC volunteers will be fully trained and informed by local primary grade teachers. For more information or to RSVP for the training contact Grace Cabalka or Dan Peeler.

UPDATE

We are so excited to report that over 35 people have volunteered to commit to the READ to SUCCEED program at Castle Elementary School. What an awesome privilege to encourage students and remind them of their value and potenial as we spend time helping them read at grade level. Thanks, LBC family, for joining forces on this.

Uncommon: Finding Your Path to Significance

By: Tony Dungy, Nathan Whitaker

Tyndale House / 2009 / Hardcover

What does it mean to be a man of significance in a culture that doesn’t offer many positive role models? Reflecting on lessons he’s learned from his parents, career, mentors, and journey with God, Dungy moves beyond material success to illuminate those ambitions, attitudes, and allegiances that make our lives truly meaningful. 256 pages, hardcover from Tyndale.

Bakersfield Rescue Mission

Every Tuesday Night we meet to provide dinner for the people who are not currently in the Rescue Missions Food Program. There are tons of ways to help and to get involved. Here are just a few:

We are looking for people to donate napkins, 3-compartment paper plates, red punch concentrate (1 gallon bottles), tuna (4# cans), ground coffee, bananas/apples, people to make sandwiches, be food servers, or provide hard boiled eggs on a weekly basis. We also need one person or small group to make soup one Tuesday a month for 150 people. You can bring your items to the church office for pickup. If you would like to help, Contact Bob or Jana Tingle.

Grandmother’s Prayer Time

2 Tim 1:5 “..The faith that dwelt in your grandmother.”

Grandmothers have a unique place in the lives of their grandchildren. Join other grandmothers praying for their grandchildren. We meet every Tuesday, 7:30-8:30 AM in room A-2. We will follow the “Moms InTouch” format. All grandmothers from any church are welcome. Contact Jerilyn Stewart for more information.

Moms InTouch Prayer for College age and Beyond

Mark 13:32, “…Could you not keep watch one hour?”

After our children leave the nest, moms can feel so powerless. How do we replace that hole that is left in our hearts and lives when there are no more bedtime stories, homework hassles, and when dinner times are quiet? We can substitute the active ministry of prayer for our children as adults. Join with other moms as we pray for our older children. We meet every Thursday, 10:30-11:30 am in room A-3 at the church. Contact Jerilyn Stewart for more information.

Prayer

We would love to pray with you…

Our mission is to intercede in prayer to God on behalf of those individuals who have expressed a need or to celebrate a praise. We intercede and pray for each request received, sharing with those in need, and praising God for answered prayers.

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he will hear us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14-15
